Miscarriage, Stillbirth and Infant Loss Support for Brisbane Families

Losing a baby is one of the hardest aspects of mum life to talk about. If you have faced pregnancy or infant of loss, or are supporting someone who has, these resources may help. Whether you need support from the comfort of your home or need to talk to someone face-to-face, there are options to help you. To find the kind of support that best suits you, we have divided the list by support type, so you can find exactly the type of support you need. Support types listed here include:

If you would like to talk directly to someone, then these support services are available to you. There are some that are open 24/7 which means you can access support whenever you need it. These phone lines are set up to support you during this tough time, call as often or whenever you need to.

 

Red Nose Grief and Loss has a 24/7 Bereavement Support and counselling line.

Sands has a 24/7 phone line where volunteers who have gone through infant loss assist callers.

Bears of Hope has a qualified counselor who has personal experience with infant loss.

Beyond Blue provide a general 24/7 phone support service for support depression, anxiety, or related conditions.

Facebook Groups

Facebook groups are a good way to connect with support services, but also with people who have been there and experience exactly what you are going through. You can ask questions and seek advice in a supportive and non-judgmental space. These groups can be long term places of support as well.

Counselling


Access To Allied Psychological Services (ATAPS) provides 6 free 1 hour counselling sessions. You can talk to a counselor who is experienced in assisting with pregnancy and infant loss. GP referral is required. Parents can get a further 6 free 1 hour sessions by getting a second referral from their GP. In extenuating circumstances your GP will provide a third referral.

Walk to Remember 2017

Sunday 15th October is Pregnancy and Infant loss Remembrance Day. The Walk to Remember is an annual event includes a memorial service, and a 10-15 minute walk to ‘take the steps our babies could not’. Entry is free. There are fundraising activities after the service. Families can pack a picnic lunch & enjoy the beautiful gardens with the butterflies. Note: Registrations to purchase a butterfly closed on 1 September for this year’s walk.
