Introducing Cara Counseling! Take the first step for your mental health.
Take the first step for your mental health – at my place, your place, or in the great outdoors!
What Cara Counselling can help you with
If you’re reading this, chances are you’re a parent, with a million and one things to worry about, and very little time. You may be worried about changes at work or at home, feel ready for a career change or to re-enter the workforce, need help with clutter, anxiety, stress or depression, need some parenting support, or any combination of the above. As a parent myself, I can relate. My purpose is to help others navigate stress, anxiety, or anything else holding them back from feeling their best.
About Cara Counselling
I’m Louise Armstrong, owner and Principal Counsellor at Cara Counselling. Using a combination of skills, experience, and qualifications in counselling and psychology, I work with you in a collaborative relationship, supporting you to gain insights, explore options, set goals, make decisions and take action to address your concerns. It’s a personalised, client focussed approach, tailored to suit each individual.
Where counselling sessions take place
I have a very warm and welcoming counselling room in Aspley, North Brisbane. Or, if a traditional counselling environment is not your preference, how about a ‘Walk and Talk’ in the great outdoors, or a ‘Talk and Tidy’ at your place?
What happens in an ‘in rooms’ counselling session?
In rooms counselling is a more traditional form of counselling, what you can generally expect if you do decide to see a counsellor. We have a warm and welcoming office in Aspley, with a comfortable and calming counselling space. You simply book a time and come in for a chat. It is a non-confrontational safe space to work on anything you need to work on.
What is a Walk and Talk?
In a Walk and Talk, we pick a park, put on comfy shoes, go for a stroll, and have a chat. I came up with the idea of the Walk and Talk while out walking myself; I find I can work through things better when I’m walking, and I wanted to offer my clients the same benefits. For some people, opening up is easier when you’re not sitting opposite your counsellor, or it simply feels better to be on the move when you’re feeling anxious. For parents with very young kids, being able to have them in a pram or stroller can make it easier to build time for counselling into their day. I recognise that my clients have different needs and challenges, and do my best to be flexible and responsive, with a focus on simply helping.
We will generally go to one of these parks for our walk and talk session:
- Kedron Brook Walkway, starting from Gilbert Road in Windsor, Shand Street in Stafford, or Mercer Park in Wavell Heights. Other access points to this wonderful walk are available, and it’s a nice level pathway great for prams.
- Downey Park, Windsor – also a great option with a pram
- Marchant Park, Chermside
- John Goss Reserve, Chermside West
What is a Talk and Tidy?
In this session, I come to your home and provide counselling support, plus some hands-on input with tidying up or addressing clutter. Being clear upfront that I’m not a decluttering or organisational expert, I recognise that clutter has many negative outcomes, including poorer mental health, low subjective well-being, unhealthier eating, and less efficient thinking. If you have issues with clutter, I will help you to plan and make changes that are attainable for you. Or if you simply have your hands too full at home and feel that taking the time to go a counselling session would be more stressful, I can work alongside you to fold laundry and similar never-ending tasks, while listening and supporting you with whatever you’re going through.
Not sure what will work best for you?
Give me a call or send me an email, and we’ll work out a plan to suit you.
Whether you need help with anxiety, depression, stress, career change, clutter, parenting, or other changes, I’m here to provide confidential, non-judgemental support, tailored to your needs.
